Overview

For several years, in fact decades, tensions in the Indo-Pacific have increased, especially those involving China and its neighbors, Japan, Taiwan, countries along the South China Sea, and India. A war on the Korean peninsula is always a possibility. At the same time, the Russian invasion of Ukraine has further linked European and Asian security, while the Hamas-Israel war can impact Asia should the fighting involve Iran.

Céline Pajon will lead a discussion on how France, which has extensive territories in the Indian Ocean and Pacific region, fits in the geopolitics of the Indo-Pacific. Following her presentation, Professor Tsuyoshi Goroku of Nishogakusha University will give his perspective, to be followed by questions from the audience.
