Information Protection and Access to Student Information
Temple University, Japan Campus (TUJ) adheres to high standards to safeguard student records governed under applicable privacy laws, including the U.S. Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 (“FERPA”) and Japan’s strict personal information privacy laws (Personal Information Protection Act). FERPA is a federal law that protects the privacy of, and access to, student education records. Please see Temple University’s Policy Regarding Confidentiality of Student Records (Temple Policy 03.20.11).
Certain student information must be shared with Temple University’s Main Campus in Philadelphia to maintain educational records, issue transcripts and degrees, and provide other academic services.
In general, information concerning a student’s educational records is sent only from the university to the student. Accordingly, the easiest way for parents, guardians, or other family members to receive university records or related documents is for the student to receive them and forward them.
However, Temple University and TUJ may provide information to a family member if explicitly approved by the student.
