Salary & Benefits

In accordance with the pay scale determined and used in this program. Support is also offered for conferences, travel, and other research/creative related expenses. Annual bonuses may be possible.

Overview of Positions

The role of the position is primarily focused on teaching, research, and service. The successful candidate will be required to teach a range of introductory and advanced math and/or statistics courses as part of the International Business Studies (IBS), Economics (ECON), and Computer & Information Science (CIS) programs. Core courses and electives are likely to include College Algebra, Precalculus, Calculus Series, Linear Algebra, and Statistics.

Further to teaching responsibilities, the successful candidate will be required to assist with the organization and development of the IBS, ECON, and CIS programs.

Overview of TUJ and Math Program

The Math Program at TUJ invites applications for one student-centered full-time faculty member to start in the Fall semester of -2025. TUJ faculty contracts are renewable. In accordance with university standards and Japanese law, successful faculty are eligible for a continuing contract after five years.

Based in Philadelphia, Temple University is a public Carnegie-designated R1 research university that ranks in the top 350 of all universities worldwide according to Times Higher Education. Established in 1982, the Japan campus of Temple University (TUJ) is a full-service branch campus that engages students from over 80 countries in American-style, English-language active-learning education. TUJ has increasing enrollments, is financially healthy, and has plans to hire over a dozen new full-time faculty members this year.

TUJ offers undergraduate programs to a broad mix of over 2,500 Japanese and non-Japanese degree-seeking students who will earn their degrees from Temple University through the Japan campus. Every semester, additional students from Temple’s main campus and other universities converge on our campus for a short-term study abroad experience.

In one of the most dynamic cities in the world, we offer thirteen full undergraduate majors ranging from Art to International Business to Psychological Studies. Our faculty and staff are international, with 80 full-time faculty and instructional staff joined by experienced administrators and many part-time adjunct faculty from the professions, business, and the arts. TUJ holds classes in the fall and spring semesters (15 weeks) and over a well-enrolled 10-week summer semester.

The Math Program at TUJ serves mainly three programs: International Business Studies, Economics, and Computer & Information Science.

Qualifications & Experience

  1. A Ph.D. (or a Master Degree with teaching experience) in Mathematics or a closely related field is essential.
  2. Experience and excellence in teaching variety of math courses at the undergraduate level.
  3. Strong research track record with publications in reputable mathematics journals.
  4. Excellent English communication skills, both written and verbal, to effectively convey complex mathematical concepts to students.
  5. Willingness to contribute to departmental and university service, such as serving on committees or contributing to curriculum development.
