Salary & Benefits
In accordance with the pay scale determined and used in this program. Support is also offered for conferences, travel, and other research/creative related expenses. Annual bonuses may be possible.
Overview of Positions
The Economics Program at TUJ invites applications for one student-centered full-time faculty member to start in, Spring/Summer semester of 2025 or Fall 2025. TUJ faculty contracts are renewable. In accordance with university standards and Japanese law, successful faculty are eligible for a continuing contract after five years.
The role of the position is primarily focused on teaching, service, and research. The successful candidate will be required to teach a range of introductory and advanced Economics courses as part of the Economics (ECON), and International Business Studies (IBS) departments. Core courses and electives are likely to include some combination of the following possible classes such as: Microeconomic and Macroeconomic Principles, Intermediate Micro and Macro, International Trade, Monetary Economics, and/or Introductory and Advanced Econometrics in addition to a variety of electives courses that can be found here. Further to teaching responsibilities, the successful candidate will be required to assist with the organization and development of the ECON, and IBS programs.

Established in 1982, the Japan campus of Temple University (TUJ) is a full-service branch campus that engages students from over 80 countries in American-style, English-language active-learning education. TUJ has increasing enrollments, is financially healthy, and has plans to hire over a dozen new full-time faculty members this year.
TUJ offers undergraduate programs to a broad mix of around 2,500 Japanese and non-Japanese degree-seeking students who will earn their degrees from Temple University through the Japan campus. Every semester, additional students from Temple’s main campus and other universities converge on our campus for a short-term study abroad experience.
In one of the most dynamic cities in the world, we offer fourteen full undergraduate majors ranging from Art, Computer Science, International Business to Psychological Studies. Our faculty and staff are international, with 80 full-time faculty and instructional staff joined by experienced administrators and many part-time adjunct faculty from the professions, business, and the arts. TUJ holds classes in the fall (September-Mid-December) and spring (January-Mid-April) semesters (15 weeks) and over a well-enrolled 10-week summer (Mid-May-End of July) semester.
The Economics Program at TUJ serves mainly two programs: Economics and International Business Studies; in addition to courses serving Political Science, International Relations and other General Education courses.
Qualifications & Experience
- A Ph.D. (or a Master Degree in Economics with teaching experience) or a closely related field is essential.
- Experience and excellence in teaching a variety of Economics courses at the undergraduate level.
- Excellent English communication skills, both written and verbal, to effectively convey complex concepts to students.
- A solid research track record with publications in reputable academic journals, and an on-going research agenda (preferred).
- Willingness to contribute to departmental and university service, such as serving on committees or contributing to curriculum development.
