Groundbreaking Ceremony

On March 13, 2018, members of Showa Women's University, Tokyu Construction, and Temple University, Japan Campus gathered at the new TUJ campus site in order to perform the Jichinsai, or groundbreaking ceremony, and gain the blessings of the local Kami before beginning construction.

The ceremony is a long-standing tradition in Japan and is required before construction of a new building can be done. Pictured above and below, Dean Bruce Stronach and Chancellor Mariko Bando take part in the ritual.
