Marcus Landsberg focused heavily on criminal defense and appellate law in Honolulu, Hawaii, from 2004 to 2024. Upon leaving the Office of the Public Defender in 2011, he had secured favorable verdicts in eighteen of his last twenty jury trials. For both the Office of the Public Defender and his own law office, Marcus handled a wide range of felony, misdemeanor, family law, and appellate matters, appearing in courtrooms across the Hawaiian Islands. In 2014, he successfully argued before the Hawaii Supreme Court in a case that redefined the crime of Escape. Before leaving Hawaii he began to accept more appellate work, where he remained undefeated in the final years of his practice.

Mr. Landsberg became known for his frequent representation in high-profile matters, including an accused murder case covered nationally by NBC’s Today Show. He developed longstanding ties to Hawaii’s Japanese community and became a regular point of contact for Japanese nationals facing criminal charges. In 2007, he appeared with Kiyoshi Kodama in「びっくり法律旅行社 世界一周の旅スペシャル」 to explain Hawaii criminal law, broadcast on NHK as a New Year’s Special. Known for his ability to explain complex legal issues to non-lawyers, he became a recurring legal commentator on Hawaii morning radio and contributed as an on-air personality for close to fifteen years.

In 2022, following the COVID-19 pandemic, Mr. Landsberg retired from active practice and relocated to Japan with his family. He focuses much of his time on helping his two sons with their homework. He brings two decades of courtroom experience to the classroom, with a focus on legal reasoning, advocacy, and making doctrine accessible to students from diverse legal and cultural backgrounds.
