Junichiro is the Vice President and Head Counsel at Universal Studios Japan, joining the company in 2019. As the head lawyer as well as a member of the senior leadership team of the company, he leads the general legal management of all corporate, business and commercial matters, including regulatory and ethical compliance, and the global alignment of all legal and compliance policies and practice for the Japanese operation of a Universal theme park.
He previously worked in-house at Sony Pictures Entertainment Japan, counseling the corporate and business teams on corporate law, M&A, partnership and investment in the film production and television network business. He also worked in-house at The Walt Disney Company Japan, counseling the copyright license and commercial matters in the distribution, production and television business.
Junichiro’s legal practice focuses on cross-border transactions, entertainment law including intellectual properties and in-house legal management. With his fifteen-year experience of in-house counsel roles with the Hollywood major studios in Japan, Junichiro particularly specializes in strategic counseling and advocate of the Japanese entertainment practice in line with the Hollywood entertainment practice.
Junichiro is an alumni of LL.M program at Temple Law School Japan Campus (2012) and J.D. program at American International School of Law. He currently pursues a Ph.D. studies in law at Kobe University, Graduate School of Law in the field of the international dispute resolution and intellectual properties.
Junichiro is admitted to the bar in the State of California and also the patent bar of Japan with limited admission to the courts of Japan for specified intellectual property matters.
