In honor of Read-A-Book Day on September 6th, the TUJ Program Board, in collaboration with the TUJ Library organized the inaugural TUJPB x TUJ Library Book Fest.
Between September 6th and 14th, we encouraged students, staff, and the faculty to share their love of reading by donating unused or previously enjoyed books to the TUJ Information Center. This not only promotes sustainability but also allows books to find new homes in the hands of eager readers. The TUJ Library was also kind enough to donate their own books, allowing for a myriad of choices.
In the spirit of the classic saying “don't judge a book by its cover”, we also introduced the Blind Book initiative. Students wrote captivating summaries of their favorite books, concealing the covers. This twist on book sharing encourages us all to explore literature beyond the surface.
The Book Fest took place on September 14th and 15th at the TUJ front entrance. Students flocked to collect free books, exchanging ideas and seeking new literary interests. Through our social media (@tujpb ! ) channels, they also learned about the various services the library offers as well.
The idea of holding the TUJ Book Fest came from one of our member’s spontaneous visit to the TUJ Library during Summer semester. She discovered a shelf of free books that were up for grabs due to the library being at full storage capacity. Recognizing that in Japan, English language books can be expensive, this motivated us to put together the Book Fest as a way to help clear the library books by making them readily accessible for students.
The TUJPB x TUL Book Fest reflects our commitment to providing enriching event experiences for the student community. Stay tuned for more exciting TUJPB events, and happy reading!
