Welcome to TUJ Kyoto! We’re thrilled to have you join us, and we've prepared a series of exciting sessions to help you settle in, connect with your peers, and make the most of your time in Japan. Whether you’re living in TUJ Kyoto housing, exploring independent accommodations, or living with your family in Kansai, there’s something for everyone. Here’s a preview of what’s to come:

Spring 2026 - New Students Welcome Week Schedule (TUJ Kyoto)
Monday, January 5th, 2026

Arrival/Move-In Day & Room Key Pick Up *TUJ Kyoto Housing Users Only! 

•    The staff and your RAs will be eagerly awaiting your arrival at TKP Kyoto Tower Hotel where we give you your room keys!
•    Those who are local, we look forward to seeing you on January 8th.

Ward Office paperwork will happen on January 5th.

Tuesday, January 6th and Wednesday, January 7th, 2026

Group Ward Office Visit *Visa Sponsored Students Only!

  • For visa-sponsored students staying in TUJ Kyoto Housing: Group ward office visits are pre-scheduled. When we do the paperwork together on January 5th, you'll receive further details.
  • For visa-sponsored students in independent housing or homestays: Be sure to visit your local Ward Office with your Residence Card to update your address as well. We’ll guide you through the process!
  • Free Time for Other Students: If you don’t fit into the categories above (e.g., local Japanese nationals with their own housing), feel free to enjoy some free time to explore Kyoto and relax before the next sessions!
  • Please note: We will not be providing lunch on this day. Please have some cash with you to buy your lunch just in case credit card payment is not available.

Student Veterans & GI Bill Info Session *Optional

A casual and supportive session for student veterans and GI Bill users at TUJ Kyoto. We will discuss the resources available to you.

Financial Aid Session *Optional

Money doesn’t grow on trees, and loans need to be repaid! This session will help you understand how financial aid works at TUJ and provide practical tips for managing your finances responsibly.

Housing Meeting *TUJ Kyoto Housing Users Only!

Come meet your peers in the same TUJ Housing. You’ll receive specific and helpful information about your housing and neighborhood, and you'll have the chance to get to know your RA as well.

TUJ Kyoto Information Center (IC) Information Session

We will be sharing lots of useful information with you about what the IC offers and how you can get your student ID card, commuter pass, Shinkansen tickets, and more. If you ever have questions and aren’t sure where to ask, the IC is always your first point of contact. Come and get to know us in this session!

Living in Japan Info Session

This session will provide essential tips on living in Japan—everything from day-to-day necessities to cultural insights.

Engagement Trips & Travel in Japan at TUJ Kyoto

The university sponsors a variety of events and activities throughout the semester, including culture and language exchange programs, day outings, and overnight trips. These activities are designed to cultivate social relations among our diverse university community and advance the university’s mission as an international institution in Japan.

How to College and Intro to Academics Panel Discussion: Thriving in Your Academic Journey

 Join our panel of students, faculty, and staff for an engaging discussion on how to succeed academically and build a strong sense of community at our university. Learn essential strategies for managing your time, studying effectively, and communicating with professors. Faculty members will share insights into the General Education program, academic expectations, and the wide variety of course experiences available. You’ll also hear from students and support staff about ways to connect with peers, engage in campus life, and make the most of our academic and support services designed to help you thrive—both in and out of the classroom.

Setting Up Your Yucho (Japan Post) Bank Account

Learn how to open a Yucho (Japan Post) Bank account, essential for managing your finances while in Japan.

Setting Up Your Commuter Pass

Do you want help with getting a commuter pass with student discount? We will take you all to the station and help you purchase it.

Visa Info Session – MANDATORY for All Student Visa Holders

This is a must-attend session for all students studying at TUJ Kyoto on a student visa. Please bring your Residence Card and get the latest visa-related information.

Career Development Session

Start planning your future! Take advantage of TUJ Kyoto Engagement Fridays! This session will cover everything from career counseling to job-hunting strategies, internships, and workshops.

College & Culture Adjustment: Stress Management and Self-Care

Adjusting to college life and/or a new country can be exciting, but it also brings challenges. Learn how to manage stress, navigate culture shock, and access resources to support your mental wellbeing.

New Students Welcome Reception

We’ve prepared a special welcome reception just for you! There will be plenty of food and lots of opportunities to meet new friends and connect with special guests.

Off Campus Activity

Join us for a fun half-day indoor activity making Baby Castella, a delicious Japanese cake dessert, while meeting other TUJ students and Ryukoku University local Japanese students! We will share more information about the activity during our Welcome Week.
