High School Dual Enrollment Program

Important: The High School Dual Enrollment Program is offered only during the Fall semester each academic year.

EARN AMERICAN COLLEGE CREDITS WHILE IN HIGH SCHOOL AT TEMPLE UNIVERSITY, JAPAN CAMPUS!

The High School Dual Enrollment Program allows qualified high school students to earn U.S. college credits at Temple University, Japan Campus (TUJ) while still enrolled in high school.

Program Availability

The Dual Enrollment Program is offered once per year, in the Fall semester only. Applications are accepted for Fall entry, and students may enroll during the Fall semester. 

Eligibility: Who Can Enroll

High school juniors and seniors are eligible to apply to the TUJ Dual Enrollment Program. Dual Enrollment applicants must meet all the following criteria:

  1. Must be in grades 11 or 12.
  2. Maintains a current cumulative high school GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale or higher.
  3. Has obtained written permission from the high school counselor or principal.
  4. Has the English language proficiency result indicated below (non-native English speakers only):
    • TOEFL iBT® test: 4 (79 on previous scale), or
    • TOEFL Essentials® test: 8.5, or
    • TOEFL ITP® test: 550, or
    • IELTS (Academic): 6.0, or
    • PTE (Academic): 53, or
    • DUOLINGO: 110, or
    • iTEP Academic-Plus: 3.9, or
    • Cambridge C1 Advanced or C2 Proficiency: 180

How to Choose Courses

Dual Enrollment students may enroll in one course per semester. Eligible courses are limited to General Education courses and courses numbered 0-1999. Please note that courses numbered 2000 or above are not available to Dual Enrollment students.

Important Notes:

  • The course you indicate on your application may not be available due to class capacity, scheduling conflicts, or academic prerequisites.
  • Depending on the course selected, you may be required to take a Placement Assessment.
  • TUJ cannot sponsor a student visa for Dual Enrollment students. Students applying from overseas or distant locations may enroll in online courses.
  • All classes are conducted according to Japan Standard Time (JST).
  • For students taking in-person courses, most classes are expected to be offered at the new Hillside Center starting Fall 2026.

How to Apply

Please note: Dual Enrollment admission is available for the Fall semester only.

STEP #1 - DISCUSS

Discuss taking the dual enrollment course with a parent/guardian and high school counselor or principal. 

Review course schedules to select course. Dual Enrollment students may enroll in one course per semester. Eligible courses are limited to General Education courses and courses numbered 0-1999. Please note that courses numbered 2000 or above are not available to Dual Enrollment students.

STEP #2 - APPLY

Create TUJ account and submit an online application.

STEP #3 – SUBMIT TRANSCRIPT

Submit official high school transcript(s) from all high schools you have attended including any study abroad programs.
The transcripts must be emailed directly to by the school using the school domain email address, or the transcripts must be issued by the school in sealed school stationery envelopes and sent by postal mail, or a TUJ-approved digital transcript service.

STEP #4 – REQUEST DUAL ENROLLMENT AUTHORIZATION

After submitting your online application, please log in to your TUJ Application Hub and access your Checklist.
From the Checklist, follow the instructions to send the Dual Enrollment Authorization request to your high school counselor or principal via email.
Your counselor or principal will complete the Dual Enrollment Authorization electronically. Once submitted, the authorization will automatically be reflected in your Application Hub Checklist.
 

STEP#5 – SUBMIT ENGLISH LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY TEST SCORES (non-native English speakers only)

Submit one of the following official English language proficiency test results if your native language is not English Test results must be sent directly from the testing organization..

  • TOEFL iBT®
  • TOEFL Essentials® 
  • IELTS (Academic)
  • PTE (Academic)  
  • DUOLINGO 
  • iTEP Academic Plus 
  • Cambridge C1 Advanced or C2 Proficiency

Note: TUJ does not accept the following test formats or score types:

  • TOEFL iBT® Home Edition

  • TOEFL iBT® MyBest® scores

  • IELTS Indicator

  • IELTS One Skill Retake*

TUJ conducts institutional TOEFL ITP® exams every month. Scores are valid only in an application to TUJ.

Admissions decisions are typically made within four weeks and will be sent to you by email.

How to Enroll

STEP #1 – ENROLLMENT DEPOSIT

A non-refundable 20,000 yen Enrollment Deposit is required to secure your place and access new student orientation. This deposit will be credited towards tuition. 

STEP #2– ACTIVATE TUPORTAL ACCOUNT

Activate your TUportal Account after receiving admission confirmation.

STEP #3 – ONLINE ORIENTATION AND COURSE REGISTRATION

Complete the online orientation and register for courses.

  • Dual Enrollment students are not eligible for TUJ scholarships or financial aid.

Orientation Fee

¥36,600 Orientation Fee is to be paid as part of the first tuition invoice. The Orientation Fee is non-refundable and may be charged independently if the class is later dropped.
