Meet the Ambassadors

Soyon Nishioka
Sogang University (South Korea)
Soyon is a junior Communication Studies major who studied at Sogang University in Fall 2023.
Why did you study abroad?
- I wanted to explore Korean culture and become more fluent in Korean. I also wanted to spend more time with my Korean grandmother.
What did you enjoy the most about studying abroad?
- I enjoyed eating at local restaurants and markets. I also liked hanging out with my Korean and international friends, and visiting traditional places in the Korea.
What did you learn from your experience?
- I learned a lot by living on my own, away from my mother. I also learned a lot about myself. The best part of studying abroad is that you will have time to explore yourself and do things you might not do back home.

Riko Kamiura
University of East Anglia (the U.K.)
Riko is a junior Economics major who studied at the University of East Anglia in Spring 2024.
Why did you study abroad?
- When I first started at TUJ, my main goal was to study in a different country. As an Economics student, I’m interested in Development Economics. UEA has a strong reputation in Development Studies, so I wanted to spend a semester there.
What did you enjoy the most about studying abroad?
- I joined the Ultimate Frisbee team. I had never played before coming to the U.K., but I practiced with the team four times a week and was eventually able to join a game! I also had the chance to visit 12 different cities across Europe and Africa in the 5 months I was there.

Aisha Nemoto
National Taiwan University (Taiwan)
Aisha is a senior Communication Studies major who studied at National Taiwan University in Fall 2024.
Why did you study abroad?
- The biggest reason was because I wanted to improve my Chinese. I took some Chinese courses at TUJ, but I wanted to go to a Chinese speaking country and improve my Chinese skill even further.
What did you enjoy the most about studying abroad?
- NTU has a lot of local students, but there were also a lot of international exchange students studying there. When I wanted to practice my Chinese, I’d hang out with my Taiwanese friends, and when I needed a break, I’d hang out with the other international students and just have fun.
