In addition to Temple Main and Rome campuses, qualified TUJ students can participate in bilateral exchange programs and Temple-approved external study abroad programs (i.e. study abroad organizations). Temple exchange programs allow TUJ students to study abroad at a partner university while paying regular TUJ tuition at TUJ. In general, this is one of the most affordable and cost-effective ways for TUJ students to study abroad.

Exchange programs are most appropriate for an independent and highly motivated student looking for a fully immersive study abroad experience. Students are expected to adapt to what is often a different, more autonomous educational structure, and is therefore best suited for students with a strong academic history. Exchange participants are required to take a full-time course load while abroad to earn transfer credit. Some exchanges have a limited number of placements and can be quite competitive; therefore, students are encouraged to have alternative options when applying.

Exchange program participants continue to pay regular TUJ tuition at TUJ while abroad, and pay housing, transportation and other expenses on their own. The number of courses taught in English will vary depending on the university, and it is the students’ responsibility to research available courses and obtain course approvals either by their major coordinator (for courses related to major/minor) or AAC (for courses fulfilling GenEd requirements and electives). Each country has its own academic culture and registration procedure, and students are strongly recommended to have additional/alternate courses approved in case the first choices are not available due to course cancellation, time conflicts, and so on.

Application eligibility includes:

  • Currently enrolled as full-time, matriculated students at TUJ who will have completed at least two semesters of full-time college-level study with a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.75 or higher (on a 4.0 scale) prior to going abroad.
  • Being in good academic standing (warning and probation students are not eligible) as well as good disciplinary standing (any outstanding student conduct issues must be reviewed and resolved before application).
  • There may be language and/or additional requirements depending on the exchange partners. Please check the eligibility page  for full details.
