Why did you choose to study abroad here at TUJ?

TUJ was the only school that I found that offered a full-time American college education in Japan, and it was a better opportunity than doing a one-semester study abroad program at another college. I thought I'd rather get the full experience here in Japan.

Why Japan?

I've always had an interest in Japan, and my friends convinced me to research Tokyo, the food, the music, and the culture. I just fell in love with it all, so I knew I wanted to be here one way or another.

Are there any places you like going to in Tokyo?

I love Ikebukuro and checking out all the arcades. I'm really big on darts and billiards. I absolutely love the claw machines.

What is your most memorable experience here at TUJ or in Japan?

Japan is such a mind-blowing experience all together. It's so different than the town that I come from, which is this little rural tourist trap in the countryside of Pennsylvania. Everything here was just so different, so it was really like one memorable experience after another. Seeing how the other side of the world lives has really opened my eyes.

What do you plan to do after you finish college?

I'd like to find a full-time job here in Japan if I could, but realistically I'm going to go where the money is.

Do you have any specific career ideas?

Not just yet. I'd like to work in advertising or even in the automotive industry. That would be my dream job.

Are you involved in any extra-curricular activities or do you have any hobbies?

I am currently teaching English here part-time, and it's actually something that I really enjoy. I get a really good feeling inside when I know my students understand and are excited about learning English.

What do you like most about living and studying in Japan?

You know, it may be a busy city, but for me, life is way more laid back. I'm not constantly under all these standards and expectations. Japanese people are very understanding and polite with me being a foreigner and not fully understanding their culture and language. It's a really great experience to have.

Do you have any advice for new or incoming students?

Have no expectations and enjoy your time here. Try the food and check out what the local hot spots are. Just explore!
