On Sunday, June 14th, Program Board teamed up with Professor Iino from Hosei University to
create an exciting opportunity for TUJ owls! Together, the team hosted a unique activity in the
peaceful outskirts of Tokyo.
This event brought together a small group of volunteers–both from TUJ and Hosei University–to help preserve Tokyo’s farming culture by planting rice at a locally owned farm tended by
Baba-san.
The excitement was palpable as the university students served as guides for elementary
students from Shibuya. Naturally, the day included playful mud fights and curious inspections of wildlife, including frogs and tadpoles!
After planting, Baba-san invited participants to play quick rounds of a traditional Japanese
summer game, suikawari (smashing a watermelon while blindfolded), with the reward, of course, being a delicious slice of watermelon!
Program board would like to thank all the participants who signed up and volunteered! We
would also like to express our gratitude to OSSE for their dedication and support throughout the planning process, and of course, a special shout-out to Baba-san and Iino-sensei.
We can’t wait to see you at our next event!
