Found Through Film

On September 25th, TUJ LEAD organized its very first Fall event, Found Through Film. This event was held in Parliament to highlight the struggles that every international TUJ student experiences, which is the struggles of moving to a completely foreign culture, finding where one belongs among a community of people from different cultures and backgrounds, and uncertainty of one's future. This event provided a great opportunity for relate and realize that they are not alone in these struggles and find their place in TUJ.

This event began with the short film Tamagoyaki by Meg Igarashi, a film based on her experience of moving to the UK from Japan and how her parents showcased their love for her compared to that of her friends. Next, we explored a film by TUJ themselves called Mural Class in Tokyo. This film documents the journey of TUJ art students as they prepare to create mural art at a hotel in central Tokyo's historic merchant district of Nihonbashi. Finally, we ended this event with the film “The School Assignment”. A lighthearted film about the journey of a student doing their homework.

This event combined a strong message of belonging and community, while also keeping it lighthearted and fun for students. LEAD hopes that this event created a lasting impression on TUJ students and allowed them to find where they belong throughout their journey in TUJ.

Thank you all for joining this event and we look forward to seeing you at our next events!
