Is LGBTQ a modern topic? On July 17th, TUJ LEAD organized an event titled “Queering Through Time”, to celebrate diverse gender identities and sexual orientations throughout history. The goal of the event was to challenge the notion that LGBTQ identities are modern and go against tradition.

The event began with fun Kahoot quiz, where students tested their knowledge about LGBTQ identities around the world. Many students answered correctly and received LGBTQ related stickers as a prize. This was followed by a Pride Puzzle, in which students worked in groups to match countries with their respective gender identities and sexual orientations, such as Muxe in Mexico and Calalai in Indonesia. The event concluded with a trivia session, allowing students to deepen their understanding of the identities featured in the Pride Puzzle.

Through these engaging activities, students had an opportunity to learn that LGBTQ identities have existed across cultures and eras. TUJ LEAD hopes to continue organizing events to foster an inclusive environment where all students and faculty feel welcomed and have a true sense of belonging.
