How are you financing your education?

The Diamond Scholarship covers the cost of tuition at TUJ, but for my personal expenses, I work a part-time job at the school IT desk. I also have a few external scholarships to cover the cost of books, supplies, and other miscellaneous expenses.

What are your average monthly expenses?

  • Transportation: ¥2,000 (I have a commuter pass that covers a lot of my travel)
  • Food & Groceries: ¥30,000
  • Mobile Phone and Home Internet: ¥2,000 (internet is covered through my apartment)
  • Rent: ¥85,000 for an apartment
  • Utilities: ¥5,000
  • Extras: ¥7,500

What do you like to indulge in every now and then?

My favorite thing is going on short trips out of Tokyo. Japan has so much to offer beyond the major cities, and I love exploring different cities to experience their cuisine, customs, and culture. Some of my favorite memories come from these trips!

Any advice to students looking for ways to finance their education?

Apply, apply, apply! I made it a goal to say 'yes' to every possible scholarship or financial opportunity. Even smaller scholarships add up over time. Have confidence in yourself and always apply, even if you don't think you have a shot. Everyone has a unique edge, and you never know what could happen.
