Admissions

All of the following items must be received by 17:00, Japan Standard Time, on the application deadline. Items postmarked by the deadline but arriving late will not be considered on time. Be sure to review all details on each application requirement. Documents will not be returned. Applicants are encouraged to complete their application for admission well in advance of the deadline.

2(a). Personal Statement
For degree-seeking applicants only
  • 250-400 words, typed in English
The personal statement is a chance for applicants to introduce themselves; discuss their interest in TUJ; describe long-term personal, academic or career goals; or share any other information pertaining to academic goals that the applicant would like the Admissions Committee to consider.
2(b). List of courses applicant wishes to take at TUJ

3(a).Native-English speakers: SAT / ACT We are a test-optional school. If you believe an SAT or ACT score would complement your application, you should submit your scores. SAT/ACT scores on an official high school transcript are acceptable.

3(b).Non-Native English speakers: TOEFL / IELTS / PTE / DUOLINGO Official score report sent from testing institution. TOEFL, IELTS, PTE, and DUOLINGO scores must be no more than 2 years old. IELTS Test Report Form may be sent by e-mail.

4. Official high school transcript(s) Submit transcripts from all high schools attended. A professional English translation must be submitted for all non-English transcripts. Current high school students may submit an interim high school transcript. Upon graduation, students must submit a final official high school transcript. Transcripts must be in a sealed envelope with official school seal or signature or sent directly to TUJ through a TUJ-approved digital transcript service.

Official IB transcripts must be sent directly to TUJ from the IB regional office. GCE Advance Level and/or Advanced Subsidiary (AS) Level and IGCSE/GCSE Ordinary Level documents must be sent directly to TUJ from the examining boards.

High school transcripts are not required for applicants with 30+ completed college-level semester credits taken after high school graduation (excludes ESL courses and vocational courses).

If confirmation of high school or college graduation is required, further documents may be requested for review.
5. Official college / university transcript(s) Submit transcripts from all colleges and universities attended. Transcripts must be in a sealed envelope with official school seal or signature or sent directly to TUJ through a TUJ-approved digital transcript service. A professional English translation must be submitted for all non-English transcripts.
6. Non-refundable application fee of ¥10,500 (¥16,500 for non-degree summer-only applications) The application fee may be paid by credit card or wire transfer. TUJ does NOT accept cash,personal checks or money orders. The application fee is waived for applicants transferring from TUJ-affiliated schools. Credit card payment instructions are provided upon submission of the application form. To pay by wire transfer, use the bank information below and make the payment in the applicant’s name. The sender is responsible for all bank charges. If transferring money from overseas, please add ¥3,000 to cover Japanese bank handling charges. Inquire with your bank if any intermediary bank handling fees will be charged in addition to those charged by the sending bank and the receiving bank.

Visa Application (if applicable)

Prepare the following items and upload them to our visa application portal by the student visa application deadline. All documents must be in either English or Japanese. Documents submitted to TUJ will not be returned. You are able to begin working on your student visa application from three months before the visa application deadline of your starting semester. Passport Photo/ID and signature pages of your passport
Official passport/ID Photo (4 cm high x 3 cm wide) The photo must be an official passport/ID photo taken within the last 3 months. It must show a clear, full front view of the student's face from the bottom of the chin to the top of the hair against a white or off-white background. 2 inch x 2 inch photos are acceptable. File extensions allowed: doc, docx, gif, jpg, mpg, pdf, png.
Proof of Financial Viability Copies of financial documents showing access to ¥3 million (or equivalent foreign currency). Must be dated within 3 months of application deadline.
Academic Record and Record of Completion of Previous Institution (if previously studied at a school in Japan on a student visa) If you have studied in Japan before (e.g.: at a language school, credit-bearing program, university, etc.), Japanese Immigration might require original documents of your school transcript, attendance record, and a letter of activity completion/letter of withdrawal.

Note: If you are from Bangladesh, China (excluding Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan), Mongolia, Myanmar, Nepal, Sri Lanka, or Vietnam, original bank statements written and signed by the bank showing the available balance must be mailed to TUJ by post. Mail to:
