TUJ invites high school students to a summer of language and cultural experiences in Tokyo. The 8-night program includes a unique mix of Japanese language classes and one of four exciting electives. With adventures in Tokyo, an overnight excursion to Nikko, and a trip to DisneySea, this will be your Tokyo story to remember!

Program Details

TUJ High School Summer Program 2019

Wednesday, July 31 - Thursday, August 8, 2019
Temple University, Japan Campus in Tokyo, plus trips & excursions to Nikko and Tokyo surroundings.
Program Fee:
209,000 yen (additional 10,000 yen registration fee applies)
The program is open to high school students entering 9th-12th grade in the 2019-2020 academic year.

Japanese language classes and a choice from four electives: Film, Art, Business, International Affairs


Overnight cultural excursion to Nikko


1-day excursion to Tokyo DisneySea


Field trips and exploration in Tokyo


Combined events and meals with Japanese high school students

Important Notes
  • No Japanese ability is required to attend the program. Beginner, intermediate and advanced Japanese language classes are planned to be offered.
  • Class and elective availability and content is subject to change.
  • Placement in your preferred elective is not guaranteed.

  • Skytree was one of the most amazing things I’ve ever seen.

  • Going to Akihabara.

  • I think my most memorable moment was the entire trip to Nikko. I had good food and went to the onsen, which was amazing. The Edo Wonderland the day after was also one of the best experiences.

  • Karaoke with domestic students.

  • I made some unforgettable memories and possibly lifelong friends during this field trip. One thing I would always remember from this program is all the fun I had with my friends.

Program Fee Details


Additional ¥10,000 registration fee applies.

  • Includes 8 nights’ accommodation, all meals, classes, program-related transportation and entrance fees to all program-related events.
  • Does not include airfare to and from Japan or travel insurance. All participants are required to purchase a comprehensive travel insurance policy to cover the entirety of the program.
Important Notes
  • Payment is due by June 1, 2019 and is strictly non-refundable.
  • Non-refundable 10,000 yen registration fee due within one week of acceptance to the program.
  • Payment deadline for students requiring a visa to visit Japan is May 1, 2019.

How to Apply

  1. Register Online
  2. Receive Application Packet by e-mail after registering online
  3. Complete all parts as instructed. Have a high school teacher/counselor submit a Letter of Recommendation to ac@tuj.temple.edu
  4. Receive a decision via e-mail
  5. If accepted, pay the non-refundable registration fee of 10,000 yen within a week
  6. Pay program fee by June 1 (May 1 for students requiring a visa to visit Japan)
About a Visa to Visit Japan

Many nationalities qualify for a visa exemption and do not need a visa for short-term stays in Japan. Nationalities not included in the list below on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan (MOFA) website must apply for a visa on their own. Please contact us for details.
