The 2021 OwlCrowd Campaign Fund: Send Hooter to Japan!

In a country famous for its love of mascots, it is hard to believe that Temple University’s Japan Campus (TUJ) does not have a Hooter of its very own. With your help, TUJ can find a home for Hooter in Tokyo and we can share our Temple University Pride with Japan!

Send Hooter to Japan!

Temple University’s mascot, Hooter the Owl, is ready to go on a trip of a lifetime and you can help!

TUJ wants to purchase its very own Hooter the Owl costume and develop a permanent mascot program in Tokyo. Having Hooter as a full-time resident in Japan and on the Tokyo campus would support TUJ's efforts to recruit and retain students, and help us build a strong Temple University identity among our students, alumni, faculty and staff. Hooter would also help bridge some of the physical and cultural distances between the Tokyo and Philadelphia campuses by being a unifying symbol of Temple University pride. Hooter would not only help TUJ generate school spirit on campus, the mascot would also be an important ambassador for Temple University and TUJ in Japan.

Yuru-chara are an important part of contemporary Japanese culture and used extensively in marketing and brand building across the country. TUJ is confident that Hooter’s presence in Tokyo would resonate meaningfully in its local community, be an important symbol of Temple University, and align TUJ very positively with a light-hearted but unique aspect of modern Japan – but with a fun American twist!

Please watch the video above to see highlights from Hooter's last trip to Japan in 2019. Hooter was enthusiastically welcomed on the TUJ campus and had “a hoot” making new friends! Hooter fell in love with Tokyo and is now looking for a permanent home in the city. With your support and donation, we look forward to welcoming Temple's favorite Owl with an enthusiastic Konnichiwa!
