Frequently Asked Questions about Graduation Ceremony

Q1. Who is eligible to participate in the 2026 ceremony?

TUJ students who completed their degree requirements at the end of the Summer or Fall 2025 academic term are eligible to participate, as are students who are currently enrolled and expect to earn their degrees in Spring 2026.
Eligible terms for regular participants:

  • Summer 2025
  • Fall 2025
  • Spring 2026

Q2. When and where does the ceremony take place?

The ceremony takes place at Hitomi Memorial Hall, Showa Women's University. The registration desk on the first floor opens at 16:30. Participating graduates must arrive and check in no later than 17:45. The ceremony starts at 18:30 (see timetable).

Enter the campus from the main gate of Showa Women's University. No access is allowed from the west gate, adjacent to Temple University, Japan Campus.

Q3. What should I wear?

You are required to wear academic regalia (a cap, gown and *hood). The vendor, Yanks (Jostens), offers a special price for TUJ. For more details, refer to the regalia purchase information.
(*hoods are not available for A.A. graduates)

Q4. Will I receive my diploma at the ceremony?

No. Degrees are formally conferred at the ceremony, but participants only receive a diploma case on stage. After the ceremony you will receive instructions by email for downloading, printing and ordering a printed copy of your diploma.

Q5. How long does the ceremony last?

The formal ceremony is approximately two hours (18:30-20:30). See the timetable here.

Q6. Do I need an admission ticket? May I bring guests?

There is no admission ticket. However, an eligible graduate must have received an official invitation via TUmail from TUJ and must have registered online. There is no limit to the number of guests you can bring. Seating at the ceremony is available on a first come, first served basis.

Q7. What time can my guests arrive?

Guests can arrive any time after 16:30. But the ceremony will not begin until 18:30. You might encourage guests to have dinner before coming to the hall.

Q8. Is there a reception before or after the graduation ceremony?

Before the Ceremony: An academic reception will be held at the TUJ campus specifically for undergraduate graduates. All graduating UG students, along with their family members and guests, are cordially invited to attend. Food and refreshments will be provided.

Following the Ceremony: A reception for all graduates (both UG and graduate programs) will be held at the TUJ campus. Light refreshments and beverages will be served. There is no limit on the number of guests you may bring.

Participation in both events is optional.

Q9. Is live broadcasting available?

TUJ will broadcast the graduation ceremony live online for those unable to attend in person. The streaming video can be accessed on the front page of the Graduation 2026 page. On-demand viewing will also be available after the ceremony.
