Eleven (11) days paid vacation in the first fiscal year (July-June) increasing to 20 days after 6 years of employment, plus 5 paid “personal and sick days” each year. In addition, approximately two weeks company-wide break over Christmas/New Year. Japanese social insurance and pension, commuting/telework allowance, a welfare-discount program membership, retirement payment system and tuition benefits for Temple University, Japan Campus (TUJ) programs.
Overview of position
Accessibility Services Coordinators share responsibility for administering student accessibility and academic accommodation processes at TUJ. Together, they manage key operational functions, including student intake, documentation review, accommodation determination, compliance oversight, and faculty consultation.
In addition to direct student support, the coordinators design and deliver programming that enhances accessibility awareness across the institution. This includes training and professional development for faculty and staff, as well as workshops and educational sessions for students on topics such as self-advocacy and navigating accommodations.
Working collaboratively, the coordinators ensure equitable and meaningful access for students with disabilities, maintain legal and policy compliance, and partner with academic and student support units. They also work closely with Temple University’s Main Campus Disability Resources and Services (DRS) to align practices across campuses.
Primary Responsibilities
1. Accommodation Administration
- Lead all student intake procedures for accessibility services
- Review medical and educational documentation to determine accommodation eligibility
- Develop and communicate individualized accommodation plans
- Update, maintain, and secure confidential student records
- Coordinate testing accommodations
- Ensure compliance with ADA, Section 504/508, TU policies, and relevant Japanese regulations
- Monitor accommodation effectiveness and adjust plans as needed
2. Faculty & Staff Collaboration
- Serve as a resource for faculty implementing accommodations
- Provide guidance on accessible course design and address faculty questions
- Offer training and consultation sessions to improve accessible pedagogy and procedures
- Communicate clearly about students’ accommodation needs and required steps
3. Campus Programming & Outreach
- Promote awareness of disability access and inclusive practices across TUJ
- Develop informational workshops or resources on accommodations and accessibility
- Participate in discussions with prospective students and families regarding available support
4. Data, Operations, and Supervision
- Oversee operational systems including Symplicity Accommodate and relevant databases.
- Collect, analyze, and report departmental data and statistics
- Recruit, train, and supervise student employees supporting accessibility operations
- Maintain proactive communication with academic departments and student services
5. Cross-Campus Collaboration & Crisis Response
- Serve on the TUJ CARE Team and coordinate student support as needed
- Collaborate closely with Main Campus DRS in Philadelphia to ensure alignment across campuses
- Work with Advising, Counseling, and other units to support students in crisis
6. Professional Development
- Stay current with developments in accessibility legislation, best practices, and research
- Participate in workshops, conferences, and ongoing training

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Strong knowledge of disability laws and accommodation procedures
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and manage sensitive information
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Proficiency with learning management systems and assistive technologies.
- Understanding of Universal Design for Learning (UDL)
- Ability to collaborate effectively with faculty, staff, and administrators
- Demonstrated commitment to supporting a diverse and international student population
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Education, Special Education, Psychology, Rehabilitation Services, Human Services, Social Work, or a related field required
- Master’s degree preferred (Education, Disability Studies, Student Affairs, Counseling, or related field)
- 2–3 years in accessibility services in higher education, or related student support fields
