Overview of position

As the fastest-growing university in Japan, welcoming over 3300 undergraduate students from 90 countries, TUJ is seeking a motivated and outgoing U.S. Regional Representative for its overseas markets worldwide to support university recruiting and advising prospective students.

As an overseas independent contractor, the U.S. Regional Representative provides services chiefly in support of TUJ’s Admissions Counseling Office in meeting enrollment goals that focus on continuing current growth and achieving a qualified and diverse student population as an Admission Counselor (the “Services”). The U.S. Regional Representative will provide the Services mainly remotely for approx. 150 hours per month, including but not limited to, the responsibilities below:

Primary Responsibilities

  • Serve as the regional representative and primary point of contact for prospective students and applicants
  • Represent TUJ and its vision to prospective students, parents, school counselors, Japanese language teachers, academic institutions, and other relevant entities 
  • Prepare and deliver presentations about TUJ; attend school/college fairs, recruiting conferences, and similar events in the assigned territories, including travel to other parts of the United States when coverage is needed 
  • Conduct proactive outreach (e.g., phone calls, virtual meetings) and meet in person with prospective and admitted students and their families to build rapport and increase yield 
  • Develop and maintain relationships with high school and community college teachers, counselors, and administrators to increase awareness of TUJ and its programs, with particular focus on schools offering Japanese Language courses and Japanese culture clubs
  • Expand TUJ’s presence and participation as a sponsor or exhibitor at Japanese cultural festivals and events in the United States Expand our presence and physical attendance as sponsors at Japanese cultural festivals and events in the US
  • Achieve a quota of 100 school visits, college fairs, and/or events per semester
  • Meet regularly with, and provide monthly reports to,  the Director of Overseas Admissions Counseling
  • Assist, as requested, with major in-person events held on the TUJ campus in Japan, such as the Counselor Fly-in Program and the High School Summer Program 
  • Perform administrative duties and provide support to various recruiting and marketing projects and programs as determined by the Director of Overseas Admissions Counseling

Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Experience in student recruiting and/or university admissions
  • Native or near-native proficiency in English (spoken and written) 
  • Strong computer skills, including experience with databases and Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint 
  • Friendly, customer-focused, and professional demeanor
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to obtain an international driver’s permit if required
  • Experience in sales and/or marketing 
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Target-oriented mindset, with the ability to work toward and meet defined goals 
  • Ability to communicate effectively at a professional level, both in writing and verbally

Preferred Qualifications & Experience

  • Experience presenting to large groups, coordinating trips, and/or marketing
  • Study abroad experience
  • Experience with CRM systems and university platforms (e.g., Slate, Banner)
  • Business-level spoken Japanese
  • Previous work experience with a Japan related organization or affiliation
