TUJ full-time faculty contracts are for fixed terms and may be extended after a successful review. In accordance with university standards and Japanese law, successful full-time faculty are eligible for an indefinite contract after five years.

Salary & Benefits

Salary is determined based on TUJ’s pay scale. Support for research-related travel, conferences, and other academic activities is available. Annual bonuses and raises may be possible.

Overview of the Position

TUJ invites applications for an experienced and student-focused Academic Coordinator/Faculty Member to oversee key academic functions of the Graduate College of Education. This position ensures the continued excellence of TUJ’s MSEd and PhD programs, as the current Academic Coordinator will step down at the end of December 2025.

The successful candidate will contribute to academic leadership, curriculum development, faculty coordination, and student advising in the MSEd and PhD programs. The position includes teaching four courses per academic year and leading academic initiatives that support student success, faculty development, and program expansion.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Overseeing curriculum design and course scheduling
  • Selecting and managing faculty, including adjuncts and dissertation advisors
  • Advising students and overseeing examinations (comprehensive and qualifying exams)
  • Organizing academic events and managing in-house publications
  • Serving on admissions and hiring committees
  • Approving dissertation proposals and defenses
  • Collaborating with faculty and administration on program development and strategic planning

Qualifications & Experience

  • Ph.D. in Education, Applied Linguistics, or TESOL
  • Experience in teaching ESL/EFL learners
  • Evidence of scholarly or professional contributions to the field
  • Leadership and organizational skills, with the ability to manage faculty and student needs
  • Strong writing and editing skills
  • Knowledge of parametric statistics
  • Experience in graduate program administration and curriculum development is preferred
  • Strong teaching record in TESOL, applied linguistics, or related areas is preferred
  • Experience supervising research and dissertation work is preferred
