If you have completed Course 1 (8985) and wish to register for Course 2 (8960), email  and request to be registered. Be sure to include your name, TU ID and the CRN for the section you wish to register in. You are encouraged to complete the second course with your cohort; however, Course 2 can be completed any time within 3 years of completing the Course 1 prerequisite.

Course Description

Course 1: Teaching in Higher Education Seminar (EPSY 8985, 3 Credits)

This course will be offered in Summer I and Fall.

Description
This course will enhance your knowledge of how people learn, expand and diversify your toolbox of teaching methods, and give you opportunities to apply what you are learning to the development of course materials and lesson plans. Participants will explore research on how students learn, develop strategies for fostering engagement and meaningful learning, and apply integrated course design principles to create syllabi, assignments, and assessments. Through readings and activities, individualized feedback on your assignments, your own self-reflection and dialogue with a learning community of colleagues. you will build a purposeful, inclusive, and adaptable teaching approach. 

Course Goals
Upon successful completion of this course, the goal is that students will be able to:  

  • Apply research on learning and adult development to teaching; 
  • Apply the principles of integrated course design to develop syllabi, assessments and learning activities; 
  • Use a variety of research-based teaching methods to promote learning, development, achievement of all students; 
  • Develop a reflective and purposeful and learning-centered approach to teaching; 
  • Appreciate learning-centered teaching.
Course 2: Innovation, Technology, and Teaching in Higher Education (EPSY 8960, 3 Credits)

This course will be offered in Summer II and Spring.

Description
This seminar provides instructors with the knowledge and experience to use research-based best practices when incorporating technology to support student learning. Together we will examine, interact with, and evaluate the application of a wide-range of technology-based innovations to achieve and assess learning goals and actively engage students. 

Course Goals
Upon successful completion of this course, the goal is that students will be able to:

  • Articulate a personal philosophy and vision for using technology to support student learning 
  • Explain and evaluate uses of technology to support teaching and learning 
  • Develop technology-based teaching materials, which demonstrate:
    • an alignment with learning goals
    • competency
    • best practices
    • active student engagement
  • Apply principles of Universal Design for Learning to teaching with technology

Prerequisite: Course 1 (EPSY 8985). 

Registration Instructions

Submit Certificate Registration Form

To register for the Summer I/Summer II cohort or the Fall/Spring cohort, complete the Certificate Registration Form. The form will be sent in the E-mail message you receive regarding the course registration.

Confirm registration information

Your registration will be processed and will be reflected on your Self-Service Banner page on TUportal in approximately one week. Please check your Self-Service Banner registration information to confirm that your course registration has been processed accurately. If you find a problem, please contact us the TUJ Graduate College of Education Program Office.

Receive tuition statement

Your tuition statement will be sent to your temple.edu E-mail account.

Pay tuition

Pay tuition by the date specified on your tuition statement.

To Add/Drop a Course...

To add/drop the course, you must complete an Add/Drop Form, which will be sent to you by the Graduate College of Education Program Office upon your request. The completed form must be returned to the office by e-mail/fax. Please note that the office must receive the form by the add/drop deadline*, which differs from the deadlines for the Grad Ed other courses. It is the student's responsibility to confirm that the office has received any requested changes. 
TUJ will issue a tuition refund if you drop a course before the add/drop deadline. 

*Your add/drop deadline will be included in the email sent to you after your registration.

To Withdraw from a Course... 

Students may withdraw from a course on or before the deadline*, which differs from the deadline from the Grad Ed other courses. After the deadline, students may not withdraw from a course. When a student withdraws from a course, a "W" will be recorded on the transcript to indicate the withdrawal. Tuition is not refundable.     

*Your withdrawal deadline will be included in the email sent to you after your registration.
