Course Description: Explore the creative side of journalistic storytelling in this practical two-day workshop. This intensive module combines core journalism with a creative writing approach to craft engaging news and feature stories. Participants will learn how to identify compelling angles, develop narrative flow, and bring stories to life beyond just facts and figures. Whether your interest lies in human-interest profiles, business features, or social issue reports, this module offers hands-on exercises, personalized feedback, and real-world writing strategies to sharpen your voice and storytelling. To ensure maximum individual support and learning effectiveness, enrollment is limited to 12 students for the writing lab.

Instructor: Dan Sloan
Instructor Biography: Dan Sloan is a veteran multimedia journalist, who wrote for Eurobiz Japan and other media after working at Reuters for 17 years. He is a frequent public speaker and commentator on current events, corporate communications and Japan for professional organizations and academic groups, a university instructor, and author of "Playing to Wiin: Nintendo and the Video Game Industry's Greatest Comeback." He is a former president of the Foreign Correspondents' Club of Japan and a former Board Member.
