AREAS OF EXPERTISE
Architectural design, urban and rural design, sustainability studies, environmental management and community development
TEACHING INTERESTS
Hiroe’s teaching interests lie at the design of living spaces through experience-based learning. As an architect and "cultural landscape" guide, she uncovers invisible cultural value by offering comprehensive, tangible experiences, such as tours and workshops. Inspired by her scholarly work on cultural landscapes, which are defined as the combined works of nature and humans that serve as records of human history, culture, and interaction with the environment, she encourages students to view architecture holistically. These unique, contextual experiences allow students to develop a critical eye for the given conditions, inspiring them to discover innovative, sustainable designs.
RESEARCH
Hiroe’s research focuses on the evolution of cultural landscapes. Drawing from her experience with different styles of social architecture, she examines the intersection of architecture, rural landscape design, and historical geography. From a sustainable perspective, she is interested in updating cultural landscapes for future generations and developing research-based design practices.
