We are excited to invite you to the Temple University Scholarship Golf Outing 2024! After our successful inaugural golf event in May 2023, we decided to make this an annual tradition. We hosted “Round 2” in October last year, with about 50 players split into 13 teams, competing for prizes and bragging rights in the unique and fun format of an American Best-Ball Scramble.
While everyone enjoyed playing golf, we also raised more than 500,000 yen for our scholarship fund to support students in need. TUJ alumni, parents, and even students joined last year, enjoying the event alongside TUJ staff, faculty, and board members.
In fact, we hope that you will join us for a day of fun, networking, and of course, golf. This is a team event open to players of all levels. You can register individually, in pairs, or bring a team of four. Initial interest in this event has been high and spots are limited, so secure your spot now by following the instructions below.

Cost includes all green fees, lunch, shared cart, a reception with food and prizes, and scholarship donation. Golf club rentals are available at an additional cost.

| Travel |
Option 1. Personal vehicle or car rental – The golf course is conveniently located only 5 minutes from the Tohoku Jidosha Do Option 2. Shinkansen to JR Utsunomiya station and Club shuttle bus. If you select this option, please make sure that you arrive before the free shuttle bus leaves the station at 8:20. If you use this option, TUJ will provide you with a complimentary Shinkansen ticket back to Tokyo at the golf course. This is a savings of ¥4,490. |
REGISTER NOW – DEADLINE IS SEPTEMBER 18th
- Step 1. Reserve your spot and complete the form.
- Step 2. Within 10 days of registration, confirm your spot by paying the non-refundable donation of ¥3,350. See the confirmation email upon registration about how to pay. If you are registering an entire team, you may pay together or separately. At the golf course, you will pay the remaining ¥19,650 (total ¥23,000) directly to the golf course via credit card or cash.
FUN FORMAT
For our upcoming golf outing, we will use the U.S.-style "Best Ball Scramble" format. This involves each player in a foursome hitting a shot from the tee. The team then selects the best of the 4 shots, and drops their ball at that location for their next shot. This process continues from the tee-off, to the fairway, to the green, and then into the hole. The score is recorded for the team only.
The format allows for competition at a team level and encourages strategic thinking. It also ensures that every player can contribute to the team regardless of their skill level. To prevent one player from dominating, there are limits on the use of any one player's shots as "best ball" throughout the day. Teams must be strategic when selecting which ball is the best each round.
Also, we will have some fun ways to provide you opportunities to possibility reduce your scores (mulligans and strings) in the context of supporting our students.
