Admissions

All of the following items must be received by 17:00, Japan Standard Time, on the application deadline. Items postmarked by the deadline but arriving late will not be considered on time. Be sure to review all details on each application requirement. Documents will not be returned. Applicants are encouraged to complete their applicaiton for admission well in advance of the deadline.

Personal Statement
  • 250-400 words, typed in English

The personal statement is a chance for applicants to introduce themselves; discuss their interest in Japan; describe long-term personal, academic or career goals; or share any other information pertaining to academic goals that the applicant would like the Admissions Committee to consider.

SAT / ACT / TOEFL / IELTS / PTE Official score report sent from testing institution. TOEFL, IELTS and PTE scores must be no more than 2 years old. IELTS Test Report Form may be sent by e-mail. SAT/ACT scores on an official high school transcript are acceptable. TUJ school code:

Official high school transcript(s) Submit transcripts from all high schools attended. A professional English translation must be submitted for all non-English transcripts. Current high school students may submit an interim high school transcript. Upon graduation, students must submit a final official high school transcript. Transcripts must be in a sealed envelope with official school seal or signature.

Official IB transcripts must be sent directly to TUJ from the IB regional office. GCE Advance Level and/or Advanced Subsidiary (AS) Level and IGCSE/GCSE Ordinary Level documents must be sent directly to TUJ from the examining boards.

High school transcripts are not required for applicants with 30+ completed college-level semester credits (excludes ESL courses and vocational courses).
Official college / university transcript(s) Submit all transcripts from all colleges and universities attended. Must be in a sealed envelope with official school seal or signature. A professional English translation must be submitted for all non-English transcripts.
Non-refundable application fee of ¥10,300 The application fee may be paid by credit card or wire transfer. Cash payments can only be made in person to the TUJ bursar. TUJ does NOT accept personal checks or money orders. The application fee is waived for applicants transferring from TUJ-affiliated schools. Credit card payment instructions are provided upon submission of the application form. To pay by wire transfer, use the bank information below and make the payment in the applicant’s name. The sender is responsible for all bank charges. If transferring money from overseas, please add ¥3,000 to cover Japanese bank handling charges. Inquire with your bank if any intermediary bank handling fees will be charged in addition to those charged by the sending bank and the receiving bank.

TUJ accepts the following items as early as three months prior to the visa application deadline. All documents must be in English. Documents sent to TUJ will not be returned.

Application Procedure for Merit Scholarships

  1. Complete your Admissions Application by the Scholarship Eligibility Deadline and check the applicable box on the admissions application form. There is no separate application form for merit scholarships.
  2. Submit supporting items by the Scholarship Eligibility Deadline. Examples of supporting items include:
    1. Letters of Recommendation - sent by counselors/teachers directly to ac@tuj.temple.edu or via postal mail.
    2. Personal copies of Awards/Honors - scanned copies may be e-mailed to ac@tuj.temple.edu
    3. Any other documents demonstrating exceptional qualifications. These may be e-mailed to ac@tuj.temple.edu

Scholarship award announcements are made about a month after the Scholarship Eligibility Deadline. The student visa application does not need to be completed by the Scholarship Eligibility Deadline.

Note: Letters of Recommendation (supporting documents for scholarship application) may be sent via postal mail or e-mail (PDF or Word document), as long as letters are sent directly from the recommender to TUJ.
