Students engaging with the cultural activities

With the collaboration of the Japanese Culture Club, TUJ LEAD held ‘Laugh and Play Japanese Culture’ on January 22nd. This was the second series of an earlier event in Fall 2023, where we enjoyed Japanese sweets and discussed our experiences in Japan.

TUJ LEAD and Japanese Culture Club were assisted by the Student Government, and invited local students from nearby Japanese universities including Showa Women’s University and Takachiho University. Approximately 60 students attended, almost 20 more than the previous event. TUJ owls and Japanese students spoke in both English and Japanese while learning about Ainu culture from the Hokkaido region through fun activities.

The opportunity allowed us some insight into ethnicities in Japan, and facilitated communication between English-speaking and Japanese-speaking students. TUJ LEAD hopes to continue this outreach, and further improve relations with local communities for our fellow owls.
