TUJ Adding Two New Minors and an Online Master’s in Information Science & Technology: Getting Students Ready for Success in an Era of Digital Transformation

Fostering a global-ready work force for these digital times, Temple University, Japan Campus (TUJ) is introducing new minors for undergraduate students in Computer Science (CS) and Information Science & Technology (IST) starting in the summer semester, and an online master’s degree program (MS) in IST open to students from all majors. Admission to the online MS is on a rolling basis, and the application deadline for fall 2021 is July 31.

TUJ has been offering a 2+2 program, two years at TUJ and two years in-person at Temple University Main Campus, Philadelphia USA, which continues to be a degree option.

“Computing skills and a great understanding of information science are increasingly important across occupational fields and in daily life. As an integral part of a Top 350 World University (Times Higher Education World University Ranking 2021), the Japan campus of Temple University is moving strategically to implement even more pathways that prepare students for the global market,” said Dean Matthew Wilson.

Many of the current CS minors on Main Campus come from related fields, such as Engineering, IST, and Math, but those in other majors at TUJ are widely welcome with a few pre-requisite courses. The IST minor will provide students with a technological foundation for a variety of fields.

“These minors are great complements to students in all majors, from art and Asian studies to communication studies and international business,” said George Miller, associate dean for academic affairs at TUJ. “Both minors will give students additional skills that will make them very desirable when they begin their job searches. There is a good mix of programming and theory.”

The introduction of this online master’s program opens a pathway for TUJ’s current and future students who do not major in computer science, making the programs at TUJ even more marketable. As for cost considerations, the tuition is the same for residents and non-residents, including international students.

This MS program is flexible, and no prerequisites are required beyond an undergraduate degree. Admissions are processed on a rolling basis so that busy professionals and students can start whenever they are ready.

Dean Wilson says, “Our goal is to make sure that students have access to one of the most in-demand degrees in the modern economy offered in English. The online master’s degree will enable more students to land these jobs and contribute to the global economy.”
