Tobias has been with EY tax since 1983. EY Tax partner since 1995. In Tokyo from 1995 to 2010 and again since 2019. From 2010 to 2018, Tobias led the International and Transaction tax business at EY in the Middle East.

In Japan, his focus is on providing Transaction and Fund structuring (tax) advisory services to Real Estate (RE), Infrastructure, Private Equity (PE) and Sovereign Wealth (SWFs) Funds and Fund Managers for their investments in(to) Japan

Tobias has been dealing extensively with the Japanese tax aspects of Fund structuring and Fund transactions, especially covering value creation planning in cross border private equity and real estate transaction tax structuring.

Tobias holds master degrees in Netherlands civil law and tax law.

  • Tax acquisition structuring on multiple Japan inbound RE transactions.
  • Tax acquisition structuring on multiple Japan inbound transactions in various sectors with a focus on value creation options resulting from tax due diligence, deal structuring and post-acquisition restructuring.
  • Fund structuring – Asia and Japan inbound focused funds
  • Connecting the overseas Fund to the Japan targeted assets, especially focused on capital gains tax protection at future exit.
  • Setting up a (Sub-)Advisor in Japan – Coordination of EY services
