Richard Derrah is an associate professor in the Faculty of Applied Sociology at KindaiUniversity in Osaka, Japan. His research interests include teacher licensing, high school education, the teaching of history, and international comparative education. Rick has attended teacher licensing courses in the United States, Japan, and Thailand. In addition, he has worked as a licensed high school teacher in the United States and Japan. In his doctoral dissertation, he investigated the effects of the decreasing population in Japan, changes in teacher licensing regulations, and shifts in university entrance requirements on teachers within a private Japanese high school. Before working on his Ph.D. Rick completed a Master's in Education at Boston College's Lynch School of Education and Human Development and a Master's degree in Regional Studies East Asian at Harvard University Graduate School of Arts and Sciences.
