Welcome to Academic English Program!
Temple University, Japan Campus's Academic English Program (AEP) offers daytime, evening and weekend sessions. Non-native English speakers improve their academic English skills and prepare for studying in English-medium universities at graduate and undergraduate levels. Students acquire two types of English skills: (1) Basic English needed to enter English-medium colleges or graduate schools, and (2) the academic English skills needed to be successful in class work.
In addition, AEP offers short and customized programs in which native and non-native speakers of English develop their academic English skills. Such programs are designed for students attending Japanese graduate schools, colleges, senior and junior high schools, and international high schools. AEP also offers teacher-education programs for English teachers at senior and junior high schools. Also provided are internship programs in which Japanese teachers of English work side by side with the program instructors.
Getting Ready for Your College Life
The goals of the AEP are that students will achieve the necessary TOEFL score for admission to the College of Liberal Arts (CLA) or another English-speaking undergraduate program and that they will be equipped with the skills and knowledge needed to do high-quality academic work after university admission.
To reach these goals, the AEP offers a rigorous and intensive curriculum of twenty-four class hours per week, taught by experts in second language learning for academic purposes.
