Since 1982, the Graduate College of Education at Temple University, Japan Campus (TUJ) has offered a master's degree in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages).
A doctoral program has been offered at TUJ since 1988.

The TUJ Graduate College of Education allows students to choose the learning format that best suits their preferences. We will offer online MSEd courses from Fall 2024 to enhance accessibility and flexibility in a manner that will benefit the overall learning experience of our students. From Fall 2024, students will have the option to complete their study (i) in-person at the Tokyo campus, (ii) online from anywhere in Japan or globally, or (iii) through a combination of both options.

Aim of our Program

At Temple, rather than favoring a particular theoretical paradigm, we aim to offer students a balanced perspective on current theoretical developments and to integrate theory and practice in meaningful ways through field-based components of the coursework.

The MSEd program is designed primarily for individuals who are presently teaching English to speakers of Japanese and other languages. It is a program of graduate coursework dealing with both the practical techniques of teaching English as a second or foreign language and the theoretical background relevant to such teaching.

The TUJ Graduate College of Education supports Temple's institutional mission by promoting internationalization, linguistic and cultural diversity, teaching excellence, and integration of research with teaching and learning. Approximately 1,600 master's degrees and over 180 doctoral degrees have been granted at TUJ since 1982.
