Sports Night

Start off the semester making new friends through playing sports and cheering on your classmates! Indoor gym shoes required to participate (separate from the ones you wear outside). We will meet at TUJ and walk over to the gym together (approx. 15 min walk).

Koto Music Night

What better way to enjoy a warm summer night than by attending a Koto concert. The Koto, Japan's national instrument, is made of bamboo and uses 13 strings to create unique melodies. The Koto Club of Showa Women's University will be at TUJ delighting us with the magical music of this ancient instrument.

Aizu Wakamatsu Overnight Trip

  Explore with us the Aizu Wakamatsu region in Northern Japan! On the first day we will visit Ouchijuku, a trade post on an old trade route with buildings from the Edo period. We will then visit the Tsurugajo Castle, which was one of the last samurai strongholds in Japan. After painting our own Akabeko, the "mascot" of the region, we will spend the night in Higashiyama Onsen, a hot-spring village hidden between mountains. On the second day, we will…

Discover Kabuki Show

Enjoy Kabuki at the National Theatre of Japan! Kabuki is a classical Japanese dance-drama that has been performed since the Edo Period (1603–1868). In this program, an audio translation service will be provided to each guest. Available languages are Japanese, English, Chinese (Mandarin) and Korean.

Plastic Food Workshop

Japanese restaurants are known around the world for displaying almost-exact plastic replicas of their menus. In this workshop, you will have the opportunity to create authentic “plastic Japanese tempura” in one of Tokyo's most famous food sample establishments located in Kappabashi, a famous street in the historic Asakusa district.

Hakone Day Trip

We will start the day by taking a cable car to Owakudani, a volcanic valley full of sulfurous vents. Afterwards, we will get on a pirate ship that will take us to the beautiful Ashinoko Lake. Nagatoro River Rafting

Summer Wind Chime Workshop

Make your own unique Japanese wind chime! In this workshop you will be able to create a Japanese “fuurin” using the traditional glassblowing technique and decorate it in your way! Not only it is a beautiful decoration, but it is also known to provide mental relief from the hot and humid summers in Japan!

Beach Day Trip

Get your sunscreen on and let’s celebrate the end of the semester and the beginning of summer break together at Katagai Beach, famous for being one of the largest seaside resorts in Japan!
