ICAS video: How should the US deal with China

Public lecture video by Institute of Contemporary Asian Studies (ICAS). This lecture was held on June 10, 2016. Speakers were Grant Newsham, Senior Research Fellow at the Japan Forum for Strategic Studies in Tokyo and Robert Dujarric, Director of ICAS

Event Description

In a recent article entitled “How to get tough with China” (co-written with Kerry Gershaneck), Grant Newsham argues that the US “approach to dealing with China from the Nixon-Kissinger era onwards resembles a forty-five-year science experiment—an experiment that has failed.” He concludes that America should be much more forceful in deterring China and must abandon the idea that a soft approach will serve the interests of the United States and its allies.
