Qualifications for Admission

  • Applicants must hold at least a four-year bachelor’s degree (or its equivalent).
  • Applicants must have at least 7 years of professional work experience, including at least 5 years in a supervisory or managerial role.
  • Potential to assume the responsibilities of senior level management positions.
  • An official English proficiency test score is required for all non-native speakers of English.
    • iBT TOEFL: A minimum score of 89 is required.
    • Institutional TOEFL (ITP): A minimum score of 575 is required.
    • IELTS (academic test): A minimum score of 7.5 is required.
    • TOEIC® Listening & Reading Test: A minimum score of 900 is required.

Note: Under certain conditions, applicants may be exempt from submitting an official English proficiency test score. Please read the English proficiency test section below for more details.

Applicants Who Need a Student Visa

Applicants who do not have permission to reside in Japan (via citizenship or prior long-term visa) must apply for a student visa through TUJ. All visa application items must arrive at the program office in Tokyo on or before the Student Visa Application Deadline.

All required application documents should be received by TUJ on or before the designated application deadlines shown above. The admissions committee will not review incomplete applications. Please send all required documents to the address below.

1. Application Form

Applications for Spring 2020 will open in Summer 2019. Please contact us for more details.

2. Personal Statements (essays)

Please respond to the questions below. Each essay should be 400-600 words in length and must include your name. Include all essays in one pdf file and send to

  • [Mandatory] What are your career objectives? Indicate your reasons for seeking admission to this program, stating specifically how this program will contribute to attaining your career goals.
  • [Mandatory] Classes meet over two consecutive weekends (both Saturday and Sunday), and there are assignments during the week. Given your time commitments, how do you plan to fit the MBA into your schedule? Describe any problems you anticipate.
  • [Optional] Please state any additional information you think may be important in the evaluation of your application. If you feel your credentials and personal statements represent you fairly, you should feel no obligation to write anything more.

3. Resume

You will be required to upload your current resume on our application form. All resumes must include the following information:

  • Dates of employment (month / year)
  • Employer's name
  • Job title
  • Job responsibilities
  • Post-secondary education

4. Certified Transcripts

Please request an official transcript or grade sheet (in English) from all colleges and universities you have attended. Transcripts should include all course names and grades. Only transcripts which bear the seal, mark, or signature of an authorized official of the university will be accepted. Once sealed, envelopes must not be opened.

If you have not graduated from a university in the United States or Japan, you are required to use World Education Services, Inc (USA). for a credential evaluation. Applicants must apply for a Course by Course report and have the results sent directly to the Executive MBA program office.

5. Two Letters of Recommendation (must use form provided below)

You should obtain recommendations from those who are best able to assess your potential for graduate study and employment in business and management. At least one recommendation should come from an employer or supervisor. If obtaining a recommendation from your supervisor is not possible, please consider obtaining a recommendation from another individual who is familiar with your performance in the workplace.

6. English Proficiency Test Score Report

An official English proficiency test score is required for all non-native speakers of English. Only test scores received within the past two years will be accepted. When registering for TOEFL exams, please ensure the results are sent directly to Temple University, Japan Campus (code: 9698).

  • iBT TOEFL: A minimum score of 89 is required.
  • Institutional TOEFL (ITP): A minimum score of 575 is required.
  • IELTS (academic test): A minimum score of 7.5 is required.
  • TOEIC® Listening & Reading Test: A minimum score of 900 is required.


Applicants who are from or have completed a college degree program (bachelor’s level or higher) in English in one of the following countries are exempt from the English proficiency test requirement: Australia, Canada, India, Ireland, New Zealand, Philippines, Singapore, UK, or USA.

Applicants who are not from or have not graduated with a bachelor’s or higher in one of the above countries are required to submit an English proficiency test score.

It is recommended that you take the exam at least one month prior to the application deadline.


  • Please contact the EMBA program office if you plan to take an ITP exam at TUJ.

7. GMAT Score Report

A GMAT (Graduate Management Admission Test) score may be required for some applicants based on professional work experience and previous academic performance. In order to determine if a GMAT score is necessary, please submit your resume and academic transcripts as soon as possible. A waiver is automatically granted to applicants who hold a Ph.D., J.D., M.D. or any other doctoral degree.

8. Interviews

Invitation-only interviews will be scheduled after all other application items are received.

9. Non-Refundable Application Fee of 11,000 yen

All Executive MBA applicants are required to pay the application fee by credit card or wire transfer. To pay by credit card, please follow the directions provided in the email you receive after submitting your application form. To pay by wire transfer, please use the bank transfer information below and make the payment in the applicant's name.

If you are transferring money from overseas, you need to add 3,000 yen to cover Japanese bank handling charges.
