Universities around the world are seeking to become more competitive in the face of increasingly fierce domestic and global higher education markets. As a result, they are increasing and diversifying their international activities. Japanese universities are no exception and are in the midst of a rapid growth in English-medium instruction (EMI). Almost 40% of Japanese universities now have non-language classes taught in English.
