The Soul of Anime: Collaborative Creativity and Media Success
- Ian Condry (Professor of Japanese Media and Cultural Studies at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT))
In this talk, cultural anthropologist Ian Condry will discuss his recent book, “The Soul of Anime,”an ethnographic study of the people who contribute to the success of Japanese popular culture. Based on fieldwork in Tokyo anime studios, he argues that “collaborative creativity” among manga, anime, toys and fan production offers keys to grasping the forces of contemporary media.
