Kent Calder

Kent Calder teaches at Johns Hopkins SAIS where he heads the Reischauer Center. He will brief us on his latest book, Renewing the Pacific Alliance.

Kent will explain to us how the economic and social foundations of the US-Japan partnership have been eroded. The US-Japan alliance naturally needs to be broadened beyond the security realm, borrowing from best practices both in the history of US-Japan relations and in America's relationships with other key nations, such as Germany, China, and Britain.

Kent's book is already available in Japanese as 日米同盟の静かなる危機 on Amazon. It will be available in English shortly, from Yale University Press.
