Python and R Basic (5 Weeks) (PYR101)
One of the hot trends nowadays (thanks to IT innovation) is about increasing data volume, computer speed, and internet. And now, we have entered the exciting era of Artificial Intelligence and innovation! With the world moving fast in the realm of AI, you can expect to see more and more AI applications in all business areas becoming increasingly important in industries. Knowledge and skills in this area will definitely be advantageous in your career.
In this course, you will become familiar with the software work environment and data preparation using Python and R. Python and R software are widely used in AI because they are open sources, user friendly, and there are many supporting software packages available. Both platforms have their own strengths and weaknesses and learning both will bring you complementary knowledge and skills.
A basic understanding of AI applications is useful in a variety of disciplines such as business and industry, health and medicine, education and research, social sciences, natural resources and more. In a world that is fast moving forward in the field of AI, working professionals (especially those in key management positions) cannot afford to be 'left behind.'
For those past the stage of active employment, this course is a good opportunity and an interesting challenge for brain training and maintaining mental faculties. Who knows? Perhaps, one day you may be able to implement an original AI application in your own quality of life (QOL). Here are but a few examples of how you can apply this knowledge in your daily life: diet assistance, healthcare assistance, training assistance, home security, auto translation (any language), photo picture arrangement, wine evaluation and more. This course will run on the following five Saturdays in Spring 2019: 3/9, 3/16, 3/23, 3/30, and 4/6.
Masatoshi Hirakata has more than 20 years of leadership experience in various business units' functions and management positions in Asia Pacific and international business operation. He earned a BA in Electrical & Electronics Engineering from Sophia University and an MA in Economics from Temple University Japan. He has been teaching in the Continuation Education program at Temple University for 10 years. He also enjoys Skiing for many years and has recently become interested in Skiing as a lifetime sport and its relationship with preventive medicine. He studied physical conditioning, fitness methodology, and skiing technical reference at Canadian Sport Business Academy. He holds SAJ Skiing class 1 certificate, Canadian Skiing Instructor Association Level 1 certificate, and Avalanche Skill Training 1 certificate from Avalanche Canada.
