In the 21st Century, being able to carry out design work collaboratively has become essential. This includes building teams, managing projects, business innovation, smart education, and wise governance. This course dives into the evolution of design know-how, from the mid-20th century up through 2020. Participants will learn 6 powerful approaches, including methodologies, tools, and key practitioners, and put this learning into practice in an extended case study. Through role plays with classmates, participants will act as part of the team of design consultants facing a sequence of wicked problems in the run-up to the Beijing Olympics, and gain experience using cutting-edge collaboration tools, including Zoom®, and Mural®. Participants should walk away being able to facilitate, record, and walk through live collaborative design work online; become better able to propose approaches, methodologies, and tools fit to any given messy situation; and collaborate to design transformative models or prototypes. If you design with others in any domain, or wish to, you would benefit from this course.
