Dorm Rules

The TUJ dormitory facilities in Jiyugaoka and Ontakesan are located in quiet residential areas, and as such it is important to respect the peace, and privacy of your neighbors. And while Akasaka and Takadanobaba facilities may be more centrally located, the dorms are also occupied by non-TUJ residents and therefore you are expected to have the same respect for your neighbors and surroundings. For all facilities, it is especially important to remain inside your rooms while meeting with friends, or in specially designated lounges or study rooms, and to not make noise in the evening.

All visitors are required to leave the premises of the TUJ dorm facilities by 11:30 pm. (This includes students who miss the train or otherwise have not made arrangements for transportation home). More details on dorm rules are provided at each dorm facility.

Guests of students visiting dorm facilities will be considered the responsibility of those who have invited them. Those students extending such invitations may be held responsible for their guests' behavior, and thus are expected to specify university policy while welcoming such guests onto university property.

In order to establish an atmosphere that is comfortable for all, it is important that students respect the privacy and feelings of others, and that the dorm rules are followed. Students who violate dorm rules will be put on notice by the dorm manager, and particular incidents will be registered at the university and put on file. Depending on the severity of the violation, students may be required to meet with university administrators, and may be put on disciplinary probation. Students repeatedly found in violation of dorm rules may be expelled from the dorm or the university, and thus required to leave Japan for visa reasons before the conclusion of the semester. Such matters will be vetted through a university disciplinary committee, comprised of university faculty and staff.

ALL TUJ dorm facilities are no-smoking, no-alcohol facilities, in compliance with Temple University's housing policy. Illicit drugs are strictly prohibited and will not be tolerated; students found in violation of Japanese law may be punished and expelled from the university immediately.

The dorm manager will address your specific concerns and provide more information about the dorm rules that you are obligated to abide by.
