Admission Qualifications
A. Completion of High School (secondary school) or Equivalent:
- Have graduated or will graduate from an accredited secondary or high school, or
- Possess a GED (General Education Development) certificate, Kosotsu Nintei Shiken (formerly Daiken), or its equivalent; and have at least 15 transferable college-level semester credits.
* Applications from home-schooled students with a GED or a state-accredited high school diploma will be considered on an individual basis without 15 transferable college credits so long as they have an acceptable SAT or ACT score.
B. Minimum cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA):
- Applicants seeking a student visa through TUJ - 2.5 on a 4.0 scale
- Applicants NOT seeking a student visa through TUJ - 2.0 on a 4.0 scale (or 3.0 on a 5.0 scale)
C. Minimum Test Score Requirement:
For Native English Speakers - SAT or ACT Examination
Minimum SAT score of 450 in both the Critical Reading and Math sections, or minimum ACT composite score of 21.
Applicants who fall under one of the following categories may be eligible for a waiver of the SAT or ACT requirement:
- Applicants who possess an International Baccalaureate (IB) diploma and passed English HL with a score of 5.
- Applicants with GCE A Levels or a similar diploma or certificate.
- Applicants who are 22 years of age or older are automatically waived.
- Applicants who completed high school in an English-speaking country that does not require the SAT or ACT for university admission.
- Applicants with 15 transferable college-level semester credits and a minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA, including a TUJ-approved English composition course passed with a grade of at least C at an accredited university or college.
For Non-native English Speakers - TOEFL or IELTS Examination
Minimum score from a test taken no earlier than two years before the date of application to TUJ:
- TOEFL: PBT 525 / iBT 71, or
- IELTS (Academic): 5.5
* Applicants who have a TOEFL score between 500-524 PBT or 61-70 iBT, or an IELTS score of 5.0, may be conditionally admitted to the TUJ Undergraduate Program as a participant in the Bridge Program.
The following applicants may be eligible for a waiver of the TOEFL or IELTS requirement:
Applicants with 15 transferable college-level (non-ESL) semester credits and a minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA at an English-based institution, including a TUJ-approved English composition course passed with a grade of at least C at an accredited university or college.
Note: Applications for TOEFL or IELTS waivers must be submitted within two years of attending a prior institution.
