Admission Application Requirements

Submit all of the following items by the deadline. Items postmarked by the deadline but arriving late will not be considered on time. All documents not in English must be professionally translated. Submit the original document and the translation together with a letter of verification from the translator or a notarization attesting to the accuracy of the translation. Documents will not be returned. Prospective students are encouraged to complete their application for admission well in advance of the deadline.


For Degree-seeking Students:

2. Typed, Personal Statement in English

The personal statement is a chance for applicants to introduce themselves; discuss their interest in Japan; describe long-term personal, academic or career goals; or share any other information pertaining to academic goals that the applicant would like the Admissions Office to consider. The statement should be 300-500 words in length and may be submitted by e-mail, fax or postal mail.


3. Official Standardized Test Results

For Native English Speakers (One of the following examinations)

  • SAT:
    Order official SAT scores using TUJ's school code (3702). For more information on the SAT, visit www.collegeboard.com
  • ACT:
    Order official ACT scores using TUJ's school code (5298). For more information on the ACT, visit www.act.org

For Non-native English Speakers (One of the following examinations taken no earlier than two years before the date of application to TUJ)

  • TOEFL:
    Order an official score report using TUJ's school code (9698). For more information on the TOEFL examination, visit www.ets.org/toefl/
  • IELTS:
    Request that an official report be sent directly to TUJ. For more information on IELTS, visit www.ielts.org

TUJ conducts institutional TOEFL (ITP) exams every month. Scores are valid only in an application to TUJ.


4. Official High School and College Transcripts in English

Submit official transcripts from all high schools, universities, and colleges attended and, if necessary, an English translation. Transcripts must be issued by the school in sealed school stationery envelopes and sent by postal mail. Current high school students may submit an interim high school transcript. Upon graduation, students must submit a final official high school transcript.


5. Copy of Certificate of Graduation or High School Diploma

Submit a copy of the certificate of graduation or high school diploma and, if necessary, an English translation. The date of graduation listed on an official high school transcript is acceptable. Current high school students may submit a letter of expected graduation from their school. Upon graduation, students must submit a copy of the certificate of graduation or high school diploma. Students who have a GED must submit an official GED transcript and a copy of their GED diploma.


6. Non-refundable Application Fee of ¥10,000



Student Visa Application (For Non-Japanese Applicants Only)

Non-Japanese applicants who do not have a resident, diplomatic or dependent visa must submit a visa application form and all supporting documents by the student visa application deadline.
