- Q15.
- Will Gen Ed launch affect major requirements?
- A15.
-
Yes, it will. From Fall 2009, all majors will require two Writing Intensive (WI) courses. Students declaring their major in or after Fall 2009 will follow the new writing-intensive requirements as designated by the major. Students who declared a major in or before Summer 2009 will follow the Core writing-intensive requirements.
Students following Gen Ed are required to complete two writing-intensive courses as designated by their major in addition to Analytical Reading & Writing, and the two-course sequence offered by Mosaic (Intellectual Heritage).
Students following Core writing-intensive requirements are required to complete three writing-intensive courses in addition to College Composition (or Analytical Reading & Writing), the two course sequence offered by Intellectual Heritage (or Mosaic).
- Q16.
- I have a Writing Intensive (WI) course transferred to Temple. What will happen to this course?
- A16.
-
A transferred WI course will NOT count toward the WI requirement under the new system. You will still be required to complete two WI courses included in the respective major requirements in addition to the Gen Ed requirements. A transferred WI course will count as an elective and may also count toward the required number of credits necessary for the degree.
- Q17.
- May I use a Gen Ed course to replace a grade of a Core course from which I previously received an insufficient grade?
- A17.
-
Yes, you may. Contact the Academic Advising Center for replacement options that are currently available. Since the process is not automatic, students must facilitate Gen Ed Substitute Course Repeat Form with an academic advisor. Contact AAC to schedule an appointment. Equivalency table is available for students review.
The repeat course, however, may not be used to satisfy multiple areas of Core.
- Q18.
- How many Global/World Society (GG) do I need? How about foreign language?
- A18.
-
All Gen Ed students must take at least one Global/World Society (GG) course. There may be additional requirements based upon your major. Check GG requirement page for more details.
