Chinese 1001 (formerly Critical Languages 0066): Chinese Elements I
4 credit hours

A beginning Chinese language course that introduces Pinyin (the Chinese romanization system), some basic Chinese characters, and the most fundamental sentence structures. The focus is on competence in oral communication.



Chinese 1002 (formerly Critical Languages 0067): Chinese Elements II
4 credit hours

Prerequisite: Chinese 1001 or permission of instructor

A continuation of Chinese Elements I. This course works on vocabulary building and introduces more advanced sentence structures, with a focus on fluency and accuracy in oral communication.
