Biology 1001 (formerly C071): Human Biology
4 credit hours

An introduction to the principles of biology using the human body as a model organism. The course will emphasize the heredity, development, structure, and functions of the human body. Note, Biology 1001 is not available for credit toward the biology major, and no credit is given if any of Biology C083, Biology C084, or Biology 0103 have previously been taken. A laboratory class must be taken with the lecture.



Biology C075: Human Heredity
4 credit hours

Prerequisite: Biology 1001

A study of the transmission and expression of genetic information in humans. Topics include an introduction to Mendelian and molecular genetics; mutations and the genetic code; sex determination; hereditary disorders and genetic counseling; the genetic aspects of behavior, intelligence, and aging; and genetics and technology. Note, Biology C075 does not count toward the biology major.



Biology 1008 (formerly C080): Human Development
4 credit hours

Prerequisite: Biology 1001 or Biology C083

An examination of the basic biology of human and animal reproduction and development: sperm and egg production, fertilization, conception, contraception, the genetic determination of sex, the relationship of sex and gender, fetal development, genetic disorders and birth defects, the contribution of heredity and environment to human development, and hormone cycles. Note, Biology C080 does not count toward the biology major.
