An introduction to the computer as an imaging tool. The emphasis is on extending one's image-making concepts and techniques while developing proficiency in Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign (or QuarkXPress). This course is taught on a Mac-based platform.
Art 2602 (formerly 0161): Intermediate Computer Imaging

Prerequisite: Art 2601
A course that builds on a student's fundamental knowledge of Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign (or QuarkXPress) to further develop various methods of working in the digital domain, including the integration of computer imaging with traditional media. This course is taught on a Mac-based platform.
Art 2605 (formerly 0165/1605): Internet Imaging
3 credit hours (non-CLA)
Prerequisite: Art 2601 or Art 2811
An introductory course that explores the medium of digital imaging as presented on the Internet. Applications such as Photoshop, Fireworks, and Flash will be employed to create images, and Dreamweaver will be used to put them all together as Web sites. The use of color tools, such as digital cameras and scanners, will also be taught.
Art 2612 (formerly 0190): Moving Images and Motion Graphics
3 credit hours (non-CLA)
Prerequisite: Art 2811
This course allows artists to use the medium of video to investigate their world. The technical end involves shooting digital video, transferring to computer, computer editing, post processing, finished pieces to DVD. Students are also introduced to alternative ways of creating moving images using digital based animation software to investigate arts of motion graphics. The aesthetics are from the art world rather than the commercial, documentary, or Hollywood styles. Knowledge of computers for visual application is expected.
Art 2811 (formerly 0188/1811): Digital Photography
3 credit hours (non-CLA)
A class in the basic principles of digital imaging, including shooting with a compact digital camera and printing using a color printer, taught through lectures and demonstrations, critiques, and independent lab and fieldwork. Digital tools are then used as a fine art medium to expand the student's personal vision and to create a body of evocative images. Personal vision and photography within the culture are considered an integral part of the process. A compact digital camera is required. Note, this was formerly GAD 0140, Photo Graphics.
Art 2812 (formerly 0189): Intermediate Digital Photography
3 credit hours (non-CLA)
Prerequisite: Art 2811
A course in advanced projects in digital imaging, including technical development and the development of personal vision through the digital medium. Aesthetic and conceptual problems are posed that use the characteristics and the technology of digital media to support image content to best advantage. Students are introduced to the issue of being digital. Note, this was formerly GAD 0203, Digital Imaging Workshop.
Art 3103 (formerly 0119): Advanced Painting

Prerequisite: This painting course builds on the ideas covered in ART 2102 with emphasis on strategies for helping the student find his/her own voice at the same time as developing-technical skills and knowledge of contemporary artists.
Painting as an art form with emphasis upon disciplined draftsmanship and imaginative composition.
Art 3203 (formerly 0325): Advanced 3-D

Workshop course for students wishing to focus on advanced 3-D with emphasis on individual instruction.

An advanced level drawing course focusing on the refinement of skills and personal expression. Individual instruction and motivation are emphasized.

An advanced level drawing course focusing on making finished quality work to build a portfolio. Individual instruction and motivation are emphasized.
Art 4796 (formerly W192): Art Seminar

Prerequisite: Art 1501, Art 1401, Art 1101, Art 1201, two non-digital electives, and two digital electives
An upper-level, writing-intensive studio course whose goal it is to help the advanced student find a voice through independent studio projects and writing assignments. The class will meet as a group, and the instructor will also meet individually with students.
Art 4848 (formerly 0381): Art Photography Workshop
3 credit hours (non-CLA)
Art 2811 (0188), 2812 (0189), and 3818 (0390)
A top-level course for the study of advanced photographic techniques and aesthetics. The student is expected to design a course of study (proposal required) that is particular to his or her own interests and that involves aspects of photography not available in the other course offerings. Work can be realized in either the darkroom or digital studio and must include unique techniques, aesthetics, and presentation.
Art 4849 (formerly 0382): Art Photography Portfolio
3 credit hours (non-CLA)
A top-level course for the study of advanced photographic techniques and aesthetics with an emphasis on the creation of all artwork and documentation needed to build a portfolio. The student is expected to define an aesthetic philosophy that is particular to his or her own interests (proposal required). Work can be realized in either the darkroom or digital studio and must include unique techniques, aesthetics, and presentation.
